Hybrid Worlds – Surrealist Artmaking Task

Challenge students to create a hybrid surrealist artwork that combines photography, painting and/or digital collage to construct an imaginative world where reality and fantasy collide.

This one-page artmaking task guides students through the creative process, from research and concept development to artwork creation, presentation and reflection. Students investigate artists who extend Surrealism beyond traditional methods, including Salvador Dalí and Erik Johansson, before developing their own surreal compositions.

Students use the Artworld Concepts to guide their research and consider how their artistic choices communicate ideas. The task also introduces the Subjective Viewpoint, encouraging students to explore how personal experiences, imagination and interpretations influence the meaning of their artwork.

What's Included:

  • 1-page student artmaking task
  • Subjective Viewpoint
  • Super 6: Visualising
  • Student-friendly, structured instructions
